The grace of God appeared to have smiled
on a woman who was reportedly kidnapped by suspected herdsmen in Ihievbe, an
Owan community, in Edo North on Sunday 19 June, 2021.
Report has it that the woman and her
husband fell victims to a kidnap gang of daredevils suspected to be herdsmen
who, additional reports say, have continued to terrorise farmers and travellers
along the stretch of bushes and forest between Owan, Akoko Edo and Kogi, a
neighbouring State.

According to a report, upon being
kidnapped, the herdsmen beat the husband of the woman with no mercy, and took
the wife away afterwards. The kidnappers said to have later placed a demand for
a ransom of N3m to be paid as a condition for the release of the woman. It was
also reported that on Monday 20 June, 2021 (yesterday), the husband and family
members offered to pay the sum of ₦1.2m, as they were unable to raise the ₦3m
demanded. This, the kidnappers were said to have flatly rejected, insisting on
₦3m or nothing!
However, in a twist of fate, the woman was said to have escaped while the kidnappers were fast asleep, and found herself emerging from the forest along Auchi-Igarra road, a distance of more than 30 kilometres from the spot where she and her husband were kidnapped about 24 hours earlier.
